Pianos in Western Movies
By Dick Bueschel

In response to John Tuttle's chuckles over western bars with pianos, the
evolutionary prognosis is very clear. European coin-op pianos early
1890s, the American Peerless in 1896, and the Wurlitzer Tonophone in
1899, with the real explosion in product occurring after 1900.

I have many photos of western and other saloons with musical instruments
in them, and the pianos really start around 1902 or so. Coin-op Edison M
phonographs and music boxes are earlier.
