I have had in my possession a Mills Violano roll for many years (and I
don't even own a Mills!)  I asked in a previous Digest if it was possible
to identify a Mills roll.

The roll I have has a *very* short leader, with no end tab or label.  It
is a large roll (paper quantity is such that the paper is within 1/2" of
the edge of the spool).  Someone suggested that the roll number might be
written on the END of the roll, in pencil.  So ... I unrolled the roll
all the way to the very end!  As I was unrolling, I kept checking the
roll for any identifying writing.  There were none.

I have read that most Mills Violano rolls were 5 tunes in length.  The
normal composition of a roll would be 2 fox-trots, a waltz, then 2 more
fox-trots.  (Exceptions are of course possible.)  This particular roll did
NOT have 5 tunes; it has 3 tunes.  As far as I can tell, judging by the
note layout/structure of the piano section of the roll, the tunes are
laid out as:

  Tune 1 : a fox-trot/one-step-march
  Tune 2 : a fox-trot/one-step-march
  Tune 3 : a waltz

I do not know if this a piano/violin only roll, or a roll for the
Orchestra Cabinet.

I hope this information will help jog someone's memory; I'd like to know
what this roll is!  If this roll is one that could be added to the Mills
roll archive, let me know; I could ship it to whomever is handling the
conversion process.
