Some Small Movements for MBSI Museum
By Hauke Marxsen

Hello Misses Schack,

In the MBSI News Bulletin Issue 133 (Nov./Dec. 1996) I found your article
about a space-offer of "The National Association of Watch and Clock
Collectors" in their museum for a MBSI-Museum-Department. As a member
of the MBSI I was enthused about that project.

Spontaneously, shortly after reading that article, I looked around in my
basement and sorted out following Thorens parts as a gift to the
MBSI-Museum Fund:

1) The colored copy of a catalog (from the late 50s) about small
   musical movements and accessories.

2) A movement for a music box / 50 teeth / moveable cylinder /
2 melodies (Love Story and Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head) /
from the late 60s or early 70s.

3) A movement for a small music box / 28 teeth / moveable cylinder /
2 melodies (Lara's Theme and Edelweiss) / from the late 60s or
   early 70s.

4) A dozen movements for coucou-clocks, alarm-clocks or for toys
(therefore you need an extra crank). These movements do not have
a spring nor an air brake. Made in the 50s. Good as a supplement
decoration near a clock or a toy in a showcase. From small size
18 teeth fixed cylinder up to 36 teeth and movable cylinder with
   2 tunes.

5) Beside the movements I have filled up two little boxes with
replacement parts for small movements (keys, screws, stoppers
   and so on).

My question: Are above parts interesting enough for a MBSI museum ?

Now the parts are lying on the window sill in my little workshop, waiting
for sending to the USA. Meanwhile, after reading the last MBSI Bulle-
tins, I have the impression that the museum project in partnership with
"The National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors" is dying.

I have spent hours for covering, cleaning and packing the parts and for
writing short descriptions. I don't like the idea that the time I have
put in was for nothing.

If another MBSI museum is interested in this parts; please tell me which
one; so I would like to send the parts to another MBSI museum.

Regards,

Hauke Marxsen
