Mr. Boichev's 65-note Pianola
By Richard Vance

Yes, there were 65-note Themodist rolls, although the system was probably
uncommon, at least in the USA. I have only one such roll, made in UK.

The margin of 65-note rolls is so narrow that the snakebites come very
close to the edge. I have always thought that the use of 2 tiny holes
for the accent coding was originally chosen because it might produce less
weakness in the edge of the paper in this format, rather than to produce
finer resolution in the accent coding, as one might think.

My very late push-up Pianola, although not fitted with the Themodist,
has a Metrostyle needle on the Tempo scale, so the 'Themodist-Metrostyle'
system must have been envisioned, if not actually made, in the 65-note
format.
