Sherlock-Manning Solodant Piano
By Colin Hinz

The Sherlock-Manning pianos are cousins to my Karn, as Sherlock-Manning
purchased Karn a few years after mine was made. However, I stand by
"London, England", as that's what it says on the fallboard. I'm pretty
sure that Higel was also in the same city, from what I recall reading in
the appendix to one of Ord-Hume's books. (It would be either Player
Piano or Pianola.)

If it weren't for the English connection, I'm sure that Ord-Hume wouldn't
mention it at all. His books have a strong English/European focus, but
that's all right, as many American writers have a strong American focus.
Now I only wish there were a Canadian writer with a strong Canadian
focus! Mind you, Downright Upright helps, although it's about the piano-
and organ-making trade in general, not players specifically.

 [ Editor's note:
 [
[ Awright, awright! Prolific writers are oft noted for perpetuating
[ errors. A previous report in MMD about the Canadian piano industry
[ established the presence, and considerable influence, of the Higel
 [ firm in Canada.
 [
[ Now -- could one of our UK reporters please determine the amount
[ of presence which Higel had in England? A sales agent, perhaps?
