Good Music Sells!
By Robbie Rhodes

Douglas Henderson sent me an article published in Pathfinder,
the Time-Warner Internet service, dated March 1994, and entitled
"'Gershwin Plays Gershwin' is a high-tech smash."

(The CD was produced by Artis Wodehouse for Elektra/Nonesuch,
and it features piano rolls of Gershwin songs played on a Yamaha
Disklavier. I believe the article appeared first in Time magazine.)

Here's a couple of sentences from the article:

> More than fifty years after his death, George Gershwin's piano playing
> is topping the charts in what Time called "...a remarkable example of
> technology put to the service of art...."
>
> The result: a CD collection ranked No. 1 on Billboard's classical chart
> since mid-January that has won acclaim from both music critics and
> historians.

Those quotes are not an opinion. The fact is that tens of thousands
of purchasers enjoy the CD, irrespective of how the music was created
or reproduced. It's hard to debate a success like this, and it seems
to begin with good music and entertaining arrangements!
