Cleaning a music box movement is no problem at all.  Spray it down with
oven cleaner, remove cleaner with a garden hose, then spray liberally
with WD-40.  It's not necessary to remove it from the case ;-)

A dealer at my local "low end" flea market who sells wonderful boxes
recommends this.  I have yet to try.  Good luck!
