Performance of Solenoid Pianos
By John A. Tuttle

Hi Everybody. (This is suppose to be a little comical! ;->

I'll bet most of you think I just sit around thinking of bad things to
say about solenoid operated pianos ... WRONG! I also sit around thinking
about ways to tax them! Put them through their paces, as it were. So,
to that end, I have finally (after almost 30 thirty years) 'moused-in'
a song I composed when I was 18 or 19, while serving at Naval Air Base,
Atsugi, Japan.

Although impossible to play with two hands, this version is as close as
I can get it to the way I remember hearing it in my head for all these
years. Using techniques I learned from George Bogatko (can he write and
arrange, or what?), I entered all the notes with a mouse, never touching
a MIDI keyboard.

"Augmented" is suppose to be a musical representation of 'Good'
aggressively pursuing 'Evil' and the confrontations leading to the final
furious battle. Evil looses, of course, and Good struts proudly away
loudly proclaiming victory.

After I finished mousing-in the notes, listening to it and editing it
a zillion times..., it struck me that it would probably heat up a few
solenoids and power supplies. I know it heats up my arms when I play
it on a grand piano. So I'm telling you all about it. It would be
interesting to know how it effects the solenoid units. ;-)

It's at: http://www.playercare.com/midi/augmnted.html , for those with
browsers, and also the new embedded MIDI at: http://www.playercare.com

For those without, you can always write to me and I'll be happy to
send it to you. I use Eudora, encode BinHex, and will send it as an
'attachment' unless you request otherwise.

Musically,

John A. Tuttle
