Player Piano Classes at PTG Seminars
By Debbie Legg

In response to the question of PTG's position on the restoration and
repair of player pianos may I offer the following comments.

I have been a member of PTG for the past five years. During that time
the PTG has offered classes on player pianos at each of its national
seminars and at several regional seminars. Demand for more of the
classes is being heard. Last summer I assisted in teaching two classes
at the national seminar in Orlando, FL.

One class was on the basics of vintage player rebuilding, the other
was on troubleshooting players from the 60's - 80's. Attendance in each
class was near 30 persons. At the local PTG-chapter level most of the
technicians prefer not to even tune a player. However, they are quite
eager to refer the customer to me or my associate.

Haven't had any of them encourage the "gutting" of a player. A few
of the local retailers would like to do it, though, if they could find
someone willing.
