Tom, Red Welte was kept going in Europe alongside Welte Licensee, which
you could have if you wanted that debased American music, and Green
Welte, which you could have if you wanted to pedal 88n rolls. In 1968 I
had all the rolls from a school's upright Steinway-Welte which was on
the slippery slope to ruin. It was a Red Welte made in 1927 - and had a
wooden tracker-bar. I believe new Red rolls were available until 1934
and Green went on to WW2. Green was a full 88n version of Red and apart
from the tracker-bars the control systems were identical, except that
Green (or some Green) doubled as personal-control instruments for
playing ordinary rolls.
