Ampico B "Reflections in the Water"
By Dean Randall

Robbie, As it happens, I don't have a copy of the roll, but you should
be made aware that Ampico re-coded many, many of their "classical"
recordings to "B" format after 1927. In almost no cases were they
assigned new numbers. A good example is 52305, Clair de Lune, played
by Samaroff. This roll exists with the same roll number in at least 3,
possibly 4, coding variations from early Stoddard to B.

Thus the Obenchain book is useful for determining the original release
date of a recording, but won't help in determining whether or not a
selection was re-coded for the B Ampico.

In the case of 50715, Reflections in the Water _is_ listed in the 1937
Ampico catalogue, so it is very likely that it was converted to B
coding.

[ You're point is well made: Obenchain is an organized list of *roll
[ numbers*, and this rollography doesn't address different 'editions'.
[ (Wouldn't it be great if the Brian Rust crowd of discographers
[ turned their scholarship toward music rolls! :) -- Robbie
