Ampichron & Capehart Switch
By Mike Walter

Hi folks, Michael Swanson wrote yesterday about the Ampichron and the
Capehart Switch.

Homer Capehart, during the 1930s, apparently contacted the American
Piano Company and talked them into allowing a limited number of
Capehart phonographs to be connected to the Ampico via the Ampichron.
The switch was mounted on the right-hand side of the drawer to the
right of the tempo lever. (There wouldn't be any room on the left-hand
side of the drawer, with the Ampichron in there.)

I am uncertain as to the style of phonograph -- if it changed records
or played the same one -- but I would imagine that it was a remote unit
that had its own case, and operated in the same manner as the Chime
Roll, playing on the hour.

This information has come from a variety of sources over the years.
I have never seen any brochures or ads for the phonograph. This would
probably have been a "Dealer Installed Option", just as the Ampichron
was.
