Steck Duo Art
By Roger Waring

Hi all..

I have just acquired my first Duo Art and I have a couple of questions
to those who are familiar with Stecks. It is an upright, dated around
1918 if the patent notice is appropriately indicative. I have not yet
discovered the serial number.

The general case condition is fair and the player action appears to work
very well.

Q1. There is a small lever inside the left hand side of the spoolbox -

     It has 4 positions:

                - Standard Rolls Pedals Off
                - Standard Rolls Pedals On
                - Duo Art Personal control
                - Duo Art Automatic Control

The lever is stuck in the second position. Although everything
appears to work in accordance with this position, how do I free
it? I do not want to use force!

Q2. The metal distribution cap mounted on the left hand outer side of
the spoolbox (i.e. connects to the lever previously described) has
8 inlet/outlets. One of them is blanked off with a small piece of
deliberately blocked tubing. Is this usual?

Q3. Reblitz suggests acquiring various books and papers, etc. prior to
starting work on the instrument: e.g. Service papers, schematics
etc. Would members also recommend them? If so does anyone know of a
     source for such items?

Q4. The owner wanted $200 for it. I agreed to that price. Was I ripped off? <g>
