Re Bruce Clark's shine problem.  One answer, the one we use, is
to play many, many ,many rolls on it.  It hardly even gets a chance
to cool off!   :) :)

Seriously, you could lacquer the tops and ends just leaving the area
where the paper runs alone, and the paper will keep this clean.
