Politeness
By Roger Waring

Hi all. In last night's digest there was reference by Larry Lobel to
sarcasm and ridicule which, although unattributed, I have to assume was
in response to my letter. My assumption is based simply upon the fact
that no one else's letters seemed to go as far as mine did. I will
therefore keep this as brief as I can.

To Larry and others who took offence at my tone I unreservedly
apologise. I did not intend to ridicule -- and deeply regret having
giving such an impression.

I was also not aware at the time that I was making a personal attack on
anyone - I was simply trying to express my views on the subject matter
under discussion. Personalities never came into it.

If anyone feels slighted please E-Mail me privately and you will
receive a sincere explanation followed by a public apology.

Finally I was certainly not trying to set myself up as some sort of
literary authority - such fame is well beyond me!

However, clearly I did go too far, and I accept your admonishments.

Chastenedly Yours

Roger Waring
