Several years ago I was fortunate enough to be able to listen to three
Wurlitzer Style 153 band organs side-by-side at an organ rally.  All
were original and all had the same numbers of pipes and were as similar
as Wurlitzer had originally built them.

I had each one play the same roll for comparison.  Each one had a
distinctly different tone from the others.  I've also hear different
Style 146s in my shop and noticed a decided difference in them as well.

It is a fact that band organs, even of the same style, don't all sound
the same.  Style 165s don't all sound the same.  Style 157s don't all
sound the same.  The same is true even of Style 103s that I've heard.

I don't know why there is such a difference in the sound since it is to
be presumed that the pipes of all organs of the same Style were made
from the same pipe scales and similar material; but, the fact remains
that there is a distinct difference between certain otherwise
identically-equipped band organs.
