The British jazz roll arranger John Farrell has a Hupfeld-made "Claviola"
vorsetzer which I think he may be prepared to sell.

This specimen has 73 pneumatics and Solodant, but has been crudely
converted to 88-note operation with a replacement tracker bar. I don't
think it is in good order.

The Claviola was identical to the Phonola push-up. Apparently the name
was used (roughly between 1909, when Hupfeld starting selling
internationally, to 1914 at the start of the Great War) when selling
Phonola instruments through non-Hupfeld contracted agents. Blothner in
London and a couple of other firms had the Hupfeld agency and their
contract (we guess) promised them exclusive rights to Phonola products
rather than Hupfeld ones !

Most 88-note pushups which appear in London auctions, in whatever
condition, sell for =L=500 (1500 DM) at least. John will probably sell
for less, but you might remember this.
