Couldn't resist a brief posting on this topic -- we who collect old
things, who like me have a GE Monitor Top refrigerator, have a living
(and probably working) example of a refrigerator with sulfur dioxide
refrigerant.  (Mine's a 1938 model, according to GE.)

I know this is out of the scope of this forum, but since the topic has
already come up, why did we switch to Freon(tm)?  Was it strictly
safety?  I was thinking maybe sulfur dioxide boiled at too high a
temperature to permit zero-degree freezer compartments.  Anybody know?
