Gothic Font on Piano Roll Labels
By Bryan Cather

I have several questions I have been intending to post for some time:

I have noticed something odd on a variety of roll labes. Several
different manufacturers from the 1920's used the same font ONLY for
the number. Supertone used it, as did Challenge (which, now that I
think about it, perforated for Supertone), but I've also seen it on
QRS rolls from the 1930's, and a few other labels.

The font is what my word processor calls "Engraver's Gothic" and is
a kind of modernistic fornt with no serifs. can anyone tell me how
several different manufacturers could wind up using the same font,
but only for the number?
