"Funky Winkerbean" & Chicago Coin Band Box

We read F. Winkerbean daily, and we could _not_ figure out what the
heck a "Band Box" was supposed to be. It just sort of looked like
a cabinet that the guy fixed up. So what, exactly, is it? I assume,
from the context of this last posting, that it's some sort of
attachment to a jukebox that contains animated characters.

In general, there's no way to find out more about incomprehensible
comic strips, though there is a fellow who maintains a Web page
entitled "Comics I don't understand."
