Robbie,  I'm certain that you are right.  "Hoyt" metal in the context
which I stated does seem to be a highfalutin' term for "tin-plated,"
but I have heard local (Detroit area) pipe organ people refer to the
two-ply sheet metal as "Hoyt" metal on numerous occasions.  I looked
the term up in the Organ Supply Industries catalog.  Here's what it
says:

  Hoyt metal -- two ply, tin coated, 84% lead, 10% tin, 6% antimony

The string seems to have gone in the direction of nonferrous metal
casting.  I just thought that Matt Caulfield's original posting might
have been referring to the sheet metal used for pipe making, since he's
such a band organ enthusiast (me too).
