Mortier 96 Key Organ Playing 165 Wurlitzer Music
By Gordon Forcier

Hi Robbie,

I received a call from a gentleman who lives only 48 miles from me on
5/21/98. He has several organs which he has purchased and one of them,
a Mortier 96 key organ playing 165 rolls caught my interest very quickly.
He said that some of the notes were not playing so I proceeded to work
on the organ at his request. Well I cleaned a few plugged up holes on
the tracker bar and got some of them to play, (needless to say, I am
going back on Saturday to finish the job), and low and behold, I heard
the most beautiful music stem from this magnificent machine. I was
shocked beyond belief. Here we have a dance organ, which was originally
book operated playing 165 Wurlitzer music.

I had brought a few rolls with me and played them. To my surprise, this
was the best sounding organ I have heard yet. The organ bears the
number 971 on the wind chest cover. The facade is somewhat reminiscent
of a Wurlitzer 166 front, but not to sure. It doesn't look like a
Mortier front.

The conversion to play Wurlitzer is pretty impressive. It looks
professional, but not done by the factory. I am going to do some
research on this organ when I am through working on it and will get
pictures and a tape recording if permitted. It is just fascinating to
listen to this organ.
