Hard Working Orchestrion
By Jeffrey Borinsky

In MMD 980601 D. L. Bullock writes about a very hard working orchestrion:

> We found that in the last two years that instrument had made $50,000
> in quarters.

That works out at over 270 plays per day. Even if the establishment
is open for 365 days per year, 24 hours per day, then someone puts in
a quarter every 11 minutes. That guy must have quite a restaurant!

Jeffrey Borinsky

[ The following is probably not true for orchestrions, but it is
[ true for juke boxes: during busy times of the day or evening
[ popular songs are often paid for more than once before they
[ play. However they only play once. This can skew the amount
[ of money per hour and the amount of maintenance per dollar of
 [ income quite favorably. --Jody
