Modern Reproducer Pickup for Edison Disks
By Reg Smith

Robbie, I think you are mistaken in advising Bill Shirley to use a
modern stereo pickup for Edison Diamond Discs. Those were vertical-
cut records, a.k.a. "hill and dale" records, and as such are totally
incompatible with any pickup designed for lateral cut records, of which
family ALL stereo cartridges belong. Yes, some sound will be repro-
duced, but it will be inferior and certainly will do no good for the
stereo cartridge.

Just my 2 cents worth...

[ I enjoy hearing the old music directly from the disc, without the
[ distortions added by the old diaphragm transducer and horn. Neither
[ the disc nor the pickup are damaged, and the music sounds better
[ to me when using the electric reproducer. I think it's superior,
[ not inferior! Have you heard the difference? -- Robbie
