My Studies at University of Ghent
By Bjorn Isebaert

Hi Robbie, You asked me what I am studying and what diploma I'll
receive. I suppose my answer on your question won't be of general
interest for the MMD-subscribers, so you don't have to include it in
the MMD-digest.

[ Au contraire, mon ami ! MMD has a special interest in our young
[ members and students, because it is you and your peers who will
[ continue the hobby long after we old guys are gone ! -- Robbie

I've finished my four-year study of Latin and Greek at the University
of Ghent. I will receive a diploma of "licentiaat in de taal - en
letterkunde: Latijn en Grieks". That's 'licentiate' (I don't know the
right translation, sorry) in arts and letters: Latin and Greek.

Most of us (there are only eleven students in our class) still have
another year to go -- me, too -- since we have to write a "thesis"
about a subject we could pick out ourselves. Of course, I'd rather
written something about organs, but ... I'm writing about Eunapios
of Sardes, a Greek author of the 2nd century A.D. I hope to get it
finished by the end of this year.

So, only next year I'll receive my 'real' diploma. Then I think I'll
start teaching or working in a library.

Well, enjoy the summer and thanks again for that wonderful MMD !

Best greetings,

Bjorn Isebaert

[ Thanks for writing, Bjorn. The licentiate degree in Europe is
[ similar to a Master of Arts and Letters degree in the UK and USA.
[ Congratulations! Someday you can write a book for us about the
[ organ makers of Belgium! Now -- how about some letters from
[ the other students in MMD? :) -- Robbie
