Hammond Novachord Tubes
By Hal Davis

Both of the Novachords I had used Loctal tube throughout, not Octal
tubes.

Hal

[ For those unfamiliar with the terminology, "Loctal based" tubes were
[ similar to octal based tubes, but the bases were made of metal instead
[ of bakelite and as I recall the pins were thinner. The most important
[ thing was that the locating pin in the center of the base was made of
[ metal and had a annular groove in it that the socket "grabbed". The
[ tubes were very resistant to coming out of their sockets due to
[ vibration and consequently were useful in applications where
[ vibration was a problem. --Jody
