Piano Roll Info for Performance Analysis
By Dr. Charles Rochester Young (non-subscriber

Hello,

My name is Dr. Charles Rochester Young and I am the Chair of Music Theory
and Composition at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. I have
been involved in MIDI technology for a long time and its applications
in the music theory classroom. I am also interested in performance
practice and how it relates to the teaching of many music theory issues.
For example, I have done a MIDI analysis of a Gershwin performance of
RHAPSODY IN BLUE and compared it to a notation generated performance
(using FINALE) to help quantify for my students what constitutes an
expressive performance.

I know that others have been interested in researching piano rolls for
their historical performance practice and was wondering what pieces
and/or performances might have been done by others in this MIDI fashion.
I am very interested in sharing my findings with others and also learning
from others in this enterprise as well.

I look forward to your courteous reply.

        Best wishes,

Dr. Charles Rochester Young
