Andy,  What you seem to be doing is getting back to the way QRS did it
and still does: using a long belt to print the words.  Now you are
grappling with the means to get the words onto the belt.

You may end up cutting the words into the belt as a stencil, just as
they do.  That would involve getting and alphabet of steel punches
made.  Sounds like you'd have to do that anyway, if you keep going down
the path you are on, in order to solve the mirror-image problem.  Why
not talk to a good old-time Linotype man or print-shop foreman about
this aspect of your problem?
