They are not near as good as the old ones.  They now have a foam baffle
for the bass speaker.   The original Leslies from the mid 1960's on had
two motors to control the speed of the rotors.  They now have one motor
controlled by an electronic circuit to change their speed.  The lower
shelf for the bass speaker in the 1960's was plywood and in the early
1970's was changed to particle board.

The model 540 that Don Elbers has found was made for the Thomas Organ
Co. of the mid 1970's.  It had a matching base cabinet for the bass.
They didn't sell very well.

I am a former employee of CBS Musical Instrument Division, and
somewhere in my parents attic is the file cabinet from those days.
Currently we deal in used Hammond B-3's and Leslies for our backline
rentals.  "Backline rental" means that we are the people that rent all
the musical instruments that "stars" need when they do a show at a
local theater or casino.
