Last weekend I had the joy of being overwhelmed by the Jasper
Sanfilippo collection.  One fascinating gizmo was a mechanism in
a cabinet that held multiple rolls and a tracker bar that played the
rolls individually, operating a separate reproducing piano.  It was
connected by a rather thick cable.

What kind of signal did it transmit -- electrical or pneumatic?  Can
someone tell me how this thing worked?
