Maintaining Interest in Automatic Music
By Roger Waring

Hi all. I think that Christiene's fears are largely unfounded.
After all, how old are today's restorers? Not exactly ancient.

I believe that there will always be folk who get satisfaction from
rebuilding old mechanical devices; whether these be cars, steam
engines, or player pianos. Whilst the instruments are kept in the
public eye, then youngsters will continue to be captivated, and
hopefully inspired. As they get older, with more free time, they
will take up the challenge.

I have just delivered an instrument (my trusty ol' 1922 Farrand) to
a family in North-East England. They bought it because the 7-year-old
lad was fascinated by it. The family saw and heard me at 1998 Hexham
Jazz Festival playing a Pedal Duo-Art and it is not the first order
I have received this way.

The answer is simple -- spread the word!
