Political Correctness
By Gabe Della Fave

Hi All, I felt compelled to talk about this whole "PC" thing --
And I don't mean Personal Computers. We as a society are all so silly
and touchy now (and it is very scary too).

Well, no one has mentioned "Darktown Strutters' Ball" yet, the "Little
Rascals," Eddie Cantor, or Al Jolson.

Do we need to _censor_ (that is what it is) these works and artists
because they sometimes depicted African-Americans (or any other race
for the matter) in a derogatory manner and miss their great art and
entertainment?! NOT!!!

Hey, since I am Italian, I am highly offended by the organ grinder
stereotype. I want all traditional street organ music banned!
I want "Italian Street Song" banished!

(I am being quite sarcastic, but you get my point. Actually, I love
this type of music and was glad I had the chance to hear it in the
Warner Bros. cartoons of the 1940s.)

Even if we allow works like these to be performed that is not going far
enough. If we change the lyrics to be "PC" this is compromising these
works and changing history (Scary, isn't it!) to suit our tastes.

I'll get off of my soapbox now.
