Servicing Ampico B Roll Drive Motor
By Paul Manganaro

In response to the question concerning the arcing of the Ampico roll
drive motor. I suggest removing the drive motor from the drawer and
inspecting the brushes.

If your motor has not been serviced in some time the solution can be as
simple as cleaning the brush housings. (Of course we know never to use
steel wool in cleaning an electric motor.) [ Use fine _sandpaper_. ]

When removing the brushes take care to replace them in the same
housing and put them back in without turning them upside down as they
are seated to the commutator. Upon inspection you can determine
whether or not they have enough life or if they should be replaced.

A very important point is to take note of the condition of the brush
housing itself. These are often (if not always) made of pot metal.
Your problem could stem from the pot metal distorting causing the brush
to hang up. Chances are good that your housings are fine but if they
need to be replaced new ones are available from Bob Streicher.
