A. B. Bonds mentioned that Orthophonic reproducers were pot metal.  Not
all of them were: the early ones were cast brass.  Believe it or not
though, several articles in the phonograph collector publication, "New
Amberola Graphic" claim that the pot metal ones actually produce better
sound.

Here's a tip to find a reasonably priced, good sounding Orthophonic
reproducer: keep your eye out at flea markets for small, suitcase-
portable Victor and RCA Victor phonographs.  These often have really
nice later Orthophonic reproducers (be sure it says Victor on the
reproducer; these were often switched or replaced).  You can often
pick up these portables for well under $150-200.

Now, don't go telling everyone this secret -- this is just between us
MMD friends!
