Steam Calliope Tuning
By Fritz Gellerman

Re: 981009 MMDigest

From watching one of these beasts at close quarters for a couple of
days I conclude that they are naturally out of tune. When the organist
starts to play, he/she depresses the keys for a few seconds to blow
steam through the pipes in order to heat them up, then starts to
play. Naturally the more frequently played pipes will be hotter than
the less frequently played ones, so the pitch will vary from pipe to
pipe.
