Visit Europe in 1999
By Hans van Oost

Dear MMD'ers, For those of you who are planning to visit Europe next
year, it is possible to see and hear the best of Europe's mechanical
musical instruments in less than two weeks!

On Saturday and Sunday, June 5th and 6th, The Kring van Draaiorgel-
vrienden will organise a great festival of Dutch street organs, band
organs and fairground organs in Arnhem in celebration of our 45th
anniversary.

Although the program is not established yet, we expect to have a
collection of the best organs of Holland. We will have different
organs on both days. The festival ground is a national open air
museum, where you can see a lot of traditional Dutch buildings between
the organs. An antique street car will take you from one organ to the
other!

From Monday to Thursday you will have the opportunity to see many
museums and collections in Holland and Germany.

On Friday, June 11th, the 6th Waldkirch organ festival will start in
Waldkirch, near Freiburg in the south of Germany. This famous festival
will present the best mechanical music that this country has to offer.

Hundreds of organs, big and small, will fill the streets of this lovely
little town, that became famous for its organ-building industry in the
late 19th and early 20th century. Firms like Bruder, Ruth and Weber
were all domiciled there.

Europe, June 1999: This is the chance to visit!
