Both Mr. Brandle's WIND and Mr. Stahnke's VIEW will convert MIDI
to file formats suitable for Mr. Tonnesen.

I currently use VIEW for the conversion, but will be using a
combination of both when attempting Ampico rolls.

 [ for editing perforator control files, and the program includes
 [ emulation of Duo-Art, Ampico and Welte pneumatic systems to
 [ standard MIDI format, so that expression changes can be heard
 [ while editing.  I believe that most, if not all, of the
 [ features of "Wind" are included in the new program "WindPlay",
 [ which runs under Win95.

 [ correcting errors in perforator control files created by either
 [ a pneumatic reader or the optical line scanner.  The program
 [ also includes models of many common tracker bars so that
 [ valve control signals may be sent via MIDI wireline to magnet
 [ valves, such as the PowerRoll unit contains.  "VIEW" runs
 [ under MS-DOS; it has no capability to emulate a pneumatic
 [ reproducing system.

 [ but George has used them successfully (in conjunction with a
 [ MIDI sequencer such as Cakewalk) to create superb music rolls

 [ No computer programs exist yet which can convert a MIDI file
 [ with MIDI "velocity" (such as recorded by a Disklavier) into
 [ a music roll for a pneumatic reproducing piano.  All the codes
 [ for the pneumatic expression mechanism must be entered manually,
 [ just as the editors did long ago.  But we're slowly getting
 [ closer to this goal !
