Tuning Music Box Using Electronic Tuning Aid
By Bill Wineburgh

Hi, Alan: In MMDigest 98110 you asked for recommendations for a good
ETA that can be used for tuning the comb of a music box.

I use a Korg AT-1 AutoTuner with a contact mike; mine is a Performance
Plus model AIT-1, made for acoustic instruments like guitars.

Attach it to the comb with double-sided adhesive tape. This works
quite well and allows me to take the tuning of the comb before any
work is done on it.

After the work is done, I use it again to ensure that no tuning has
been 'lost'. If there have been changes (or if changes are needed),
then I use the ETA to determine whether to raise or lower the
pitch ... but that is a whole separate discussion.

Musicaly yours,

Bill Wineburgh

P.S. For MMD: I've just added a few 'lots' of piano rolls for sale
on my home page. All you player piano folks, check 'em out.
