Rachmaninoff Telarc CD Reviewed in Fi Magazine
By Jim Edwards

In the December issue of Fi, The Magazine of Music & Sound, the resident
columnist Terry Teachout, writes a two-page article about the Stahnke CD
and notes that "Three things are always with us: death, taxes, and piano
roll reissues".

Little does he realize that there is, at least on the MMD, a fourth:
critics writing about the recording either in glowing admiration or
Scroogy "bah! humbugs!"

His critique and analysis is excellent. He compares all forms of the
Master's recordings as well as other reproducing piano recordings and
even has a concert pianist do a blindfold test of the Evans CD, a 1942
RCA recording, and the Stahnke CD. Bottom line (but you should read
the article yourself): Stahnke rules!

Fi has a toll free subscription number 1-800-779-HIFI (4434).
Their address is P. O. Box 16747, North Hollywood, Ca 91615-9744.
Teachout's column is called "Fair Hearings".
