Insurance Pays For Damage From Flooded Toilet
By Don Teach

I had Chubb Insurance and was very pleased with it. The cost was high.

I live in Louisiana where water is something of a problem. In April
1991 we had ten inches of rain overnight. The insurance people called
and offered a semi truck with men to come to our home and start moving
instruments. I said that the water really wasn't that bad here, and
I didn't think there would be a problem. That was at about 8:30 in
the morning.

Then the unthinkable happened: the water started to really rise,
and was in the yard. It started coming in the house rather fast.
I should have let the insurance company send the truck.

I had a load of lumber and my saws set up for another project.
I quickly made little platforms and started moving all the instruments
I could onto these platforms. I got all my pianos except one up off
the floor about a foot. I had pictures of the Seeburg G with nice
little waves trickling under its castors.

The insurance adjuster arrived about 12:00 with his checkbook in hand.
My insurance didn't cover flooding, but the insurance adjuster asked
about the condition of the toilet.

It had indeed backed up, so I was then covered.
