Years ago I overhauled the wind motor on my sister's player piano, but
I didn't touch the bushings because I didn't know how to get all the
pieces off the crankshaft (which has more bends than a snake with bad
cramps), let alone get them back on after being re-bushed without
destroying the new felt.

Am I just wrong in assuming that you remove all the pieces to re-felt
them?  I don't think so, but even with the old matted-down bushings,
the pieces can't easily be pushed around the sharper bends in the shaft
and the center metal mounting bracket seems impossible to move.

The motor now lopes badly, and I think that the problem is mostly
due to slop in the crankshaft and the five connecting rods driving it.
The motor seems pretty tight: it is pretty impossible to turn it in the
reverse direction.

This is a small problem, but it has me baffled.  Help.
