Replacement Lower Comb For Regina
By Reg Smith

If and when Rick and Betty are successful in locating a donor lower
comb, the entire mechanism should be entrusted to an experienced
restorer who will first modify the donor comb as needed to mount on
Rick's bedplate. This is a tedious process including the setup and
adjustment of the damper rails.

Although the combs were mass-produced, they were individually setup
on their bedplate, then holes drilled for locating dowels. One cannot
simply exchange one comb to another Regina without meticulously
resetting the new comb, and relocating the dowels. The restorer will
then need to retune the two combs appropriately, so that they are just
a few cents apart from each other on each note.

The trick is to know just how far apart the various notes must be tuned
to optimize that marvelous Regina sound quality.
