Phono Reproducer: "The Balance Style E"
By Jim Canavan

Sounds like the reproducer is an add-on, that will play both laterally
recorded records ("normal 78s") as well as non-Edison vertically-
recorded records. Pathe is the most commonly found of this type,
at least in the US.

Do not attempt to play Edison Diamond Disks with this reproducer!
Diamond Disk reproducers are fairly simply to find; they turn up quite
often on eBay, and are easily found at phonograph shows for between
$50-100. If you are lucky, you can find a late model version, called
an Edisonic or "New Standard Reproducer." These versions came out in
the mid to late 20s, and have a slightly larger weight, giving a much
fuller sound.

As far as the vertical stylus on your reproducer, if it is not in good
condition, replacements are readily available -- just look for a Pathe
ball stylus and it should fit fine.
