Hi Jody,  While this may seem like an unimportant thing, the fact of
the matter is that the QRS recording piano did not use pencil marks.
This is because of the difficulties encountered when trying to use a
pencil for recording.

The recording is actually done using a traveling carbon paper which
is pressed against the recording paper to mark where the perforations
belong.  I have watched this piano in operation and by using the carbon
paper satisfactory results are obtained.  There was a picture of this
that I sent to you or Robbie.

I also sent a picture of the "arranged - Hand Played" perforating piano
that J. Lawrence Cook used to obtain so many of his arrangements while
he was at QRS.  The live recording piano is a medium-size grand while the
perforating piano is an upright.
