Melville Clark
By Peter Neilson

We are indeed fortunate that successful computers had not been invented
in Melville Clark's time, because if they had been, he would have been
absorbed by them and would not have turned to mechanical instruments.

Melville Clark apparently experimented on his production models, with
the result that each one had one or more of his experiments installed on
it. Anyone who works in a production department knows to dread the
appearance of the R&D people on the production floor. Worse, if the R&D
guy happens to own the company!
