Polishing Old Ivory Keys
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All,

Polishing ivory is very easy as long as the drill speed isn't too fast.
I use a standard Black & Decker power drill and an eight inch cotton
buffing wheel. The polishing compound I use comes from American Piano
Supply Co, in Clifton, NJ. It's advertised as Polishing Compound,
Item No. 391026 and comes in a 2-1/2 pound brick. It is white Tripoli
for Ivory or Ivorine. The catalog list price is $9.00.

I wouldn't recommend a Dremel tool for the job since they typically
spin way too fast and could actually scorch the ivory, turning it brown
(burned bone). Can you tell I've made that mistake before? :-)

Musically,

John A. Tuttle
