Vincent Lopez
By Bruce Clark

In regard to Vincent Lopez and Ampico rolls, I recall that Vincent did
not make any of those rolls. It is said that he could not play the piano
well at all! I was told that Ampico paid Vincent a handsome sum to use
his name, while probably Edgar Fairchild, and Victor Arden made them.

It has been said that during a 1920's promotion by Ampico, Vincent
Lopez was hired to promote his Ampico rolls. A person hearing the
rolls, asked Vincent to play the same tune when the roll had finished,
and Vincent could not do it.

Vincent was not at all polite to Larry Givens, who, during the early
1960's took a Vincent Lopez Ampico Roll to New York City for Vincent to
autograph. When Vincent saw the roll that Larry had brought for him to
autograph, he ordered him out of the room, and used some very
un-gentlemanly language.
