I live in Philadelphia, and I would recommend against using the
American Hotel.  It's about 30 years old and not in the best shape.
Fortunately there are lots of other hotels within a 15-minute drive.
They are:

1. The Marriott in Conshohocken (10 minutes)

2. Numerous Hotels in King of Prussia (15 minutes)
   (Hampton Inn, Macintosh, Sheraton, Hilton,)

3. A brand new (3 months) Hampton Inn on Chemical Road in Norristown
   (10 minutes, but be sure to specify a room that's not on the
   Blue Route side of the building.)

4. Center City Philadelphia has many hotels, but they tend to be more
   expensive (15 min)

5. Right next door to the Adam's Mark is a Holiday Inn that's about
   seven years old (1 min)
