Mediocre Restoration and Regulation
By Todd Augsburger

Art, Thanks for your comments in MMD. It makes sense! I'm neither
a professional restorer nor musician, but when I listen to instruments,
I _do_ notice things such as late or missing percussion, mediocre
arrangements, and out-of-tune instruments.

The worst percussion delay I've ever heard was on a new instrument.
The worst arrangements are often recent issue (although there are also
some _great_ new ones as well). The instruments that bother me the
most are those recently restored but not kept in tune -- they _could_
be so wonderful.

I know I'm guilty of the same complaints, but you've encouraged me to
pay more attention to detail.

Thanks,

Todd Augsburger

[ I have a growing list of CDs which have fine sounds except the
[ percussion. It seems that neither the instrument owners nor the
[ record producers care: they tune the pipes for the recording session
[ but neglect the rest of the maintenance. I wish that they would give
[ the same care to a street organ CD as they do to a church organ
 [ recording. -- Robbie
