Sheet Music to Electronic to Roll
By John McClure

While the thread on PowerRoll and roll readers is going on I'd like to
ask of the feasibility of a scanner that could read sheet music turn it
to and electronic signal and then power an electromagnetic or through
PowerRoll, a tracker bar better yet. The potential is almost unlimited.
I mentioned this when I visited the Pianomation assembly plant for
Story and Clark, in Seneca Pa, back in the early 1990's. I had no
interest shown then. Technology has advanced so much since then and we
have such a wealth of knowledge available through this medium just
wanted to throw the idea out again.

Thanks,
John McClure

[ There is at least one "competent" scanned sheet music to MIDI
[ program out there. I hope that we'll here some responses from
[ the group. I can tell you, however, that with the possible exception
[ of "Bach organ inventions", that most sheet music converted to
[ exact digital representation sounds very, um, "mechanical". This
[ is a great disappointment, but still seems to be true. I wish
[ Robbie was here to give a good explanation of this... -- Jody
